The Ocean – Montreal to Halifax by Train

The Ocean – Montreal to Halifax by Train

I had the next five days off and had no idea what to do. Not enough time to book an All-Inclusive trip down South and too much time to sit around at home. But I wanted to do something different…

Then I came across a seat-sale at Via Rail, Canada’s counterpart to Amtrak. A train ride! Of course! I’d never taken the train, other than the commuter train to Toronto many years ago and there was nothing exciting about that.

Adventure Awaits

I booked a Sleeper Plus ticket which includes accommodations, meals, snacks, and access to the Park Car: 360-degree views in the upper observation deck, and two stylish lower lounges.

As a bonus, it was the off-season (Early March) so the train was nearly empty!

It was a 21-hour trip with multiple stops including in Quebec City (QC), Campbellton (NB), Moncton (NB), and ultimately in Halifax (NS).

I absolutely adored my trip! The Staff was super friendly, the food was delicious, and I met some very interesting people! I had brought so much to entertain myself, but it seems there aren’t enough hours in the day to adequately take in the beautiful landscapes as you move from province to province.

In fact, I liked it so much, it gave birth to my 2017 summer plans: Traveling Across Canada by Train! Stay Tuned!
